Manuel Ferreira - Personal Biography
Manuel Ferreira began practicing yoga as a complement to surfing in 2000. For three years, he studied at the Portuguese Center of Yoga (CPY) with professor Carlos Rui, a student of BKS Iyengar, developing his skills to teach in line with the principles of Dynamic yoga.
He began practicing Ashtanga yoga with the opening of Casa Vinyasa Ashtanga Yoga Shala in 2003, practicing daily with Tarik van Prehn (teacher authorized by KPJAYI), and felt that Ashtanga yoga was his path. After one year he was invited to teach at Casa Vinyasa, first as an assistant of Tarik van Prehn and later as main teacher.
Manuel has traveled every year since 2004 to Mysore, India, where he stayed for at least three months per year studying at the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI) with K. Pattabhi Jois (Guruji), Sharath Jois and Saraswathi.
In 2007, Manuel founded the Ashtanga Cascais Yoga Shala with Vera Simões. The space was entirely dedicated to the teaching of traditional Ashtanga yoga. Manuel was authorized in 2009 by the KPJAYI. In 2010, he attended the teacher training program for authorized teachers at the KPJAYI with Sharath Jois.
Throughout the years he has also studied regularly with other KPJAYI-certified teachers such as Rolf Naujokat, Eileen Hall, Mark Robberds, David Roche and Eddie Stern. In the last three years, he has been teaching in the following countries: Australia, at Yoga Space and Yoga Moves; Philippines, at Pure Yoga and Bliss Yoga; Malaysia, at Ashtanga Lumpur; Canada, at Ashtanga Yoga Toronto; and Portugal, at Casa Vinyasa.
