David Collins - Personal Biography

David Collins lives in Monkstown, in Dublin, Ireland with his wife, Paula Herbert and their daughter, Grace. Together they run Ashtanga Yoga Dublin. Here, David teaches daily Mysore, as well as chanting and philosophy courses and many workshops. In addition, he teaches workshops and retreats in other venues in Ireland, Germany and Italy. Of his yoga life, David says:

"I have been practising yoga for 25 years, and Ashtanga since 1999. In 2002, having been teaching yoga part-time since 1994, I decided to devote myself fully to yoga practice and study, and opened the shala, Ashtanga Yoga Dublin, in Dublin, Ireland.

I am lucky enough to have been able to study with some of the most dedicated Ashtanga teachers in the world and am deeply indebted to them, particularly to Lino Miele and Gwendoline Hunt, my first teachers; and more recently to Peter Sanson and Paul Dallaghan (Paul particularly for the pranayama).  

But most especially, I give my thanks to Manju Jois, whose teaching, friendship and very special energy is and has been such a great blessing to me and everyone at Ashtanga Yoga Dublin for so many years now. I feel greatly privileged to have Manju and his family in our lives.

I also study yoga philosophy and chanting with Dr. M.A. Jayashree and Prof. M. A. Narashima of the Ananta Research Foundation in Mysore. Again, love and thanks to them, and also to my great friend and spiritual teacher, Jackie O Keeffe, who is helping me to see things as they really are. 

Above all, I am eternally grateful to Guruji, with whom I had the privilege to practice in Mysore, and to whom I attribute all the good things that have come to me since I began to do this practice.

Lastly and most especially, I give thanks to Paula and Grace, who are my daily support and sustenance in life, and who teach me the true meaning of yoga by allowing me to know love with every breath. Hari Om Tat Sat."
