Joan Isbell - Personal Biography Joan Isbell and Eric Stauffer met at the end of 1993 and started practicing Ashtanga yoga early in 1994. At that time, there was no one teaching in Denver, and we took regular classes at the Yoga Workshop in Boulder. In 1997, we went to Tulum for a week-long retreat with Tim Miller, and we returned to Tulum the following year. Back home we were starting to practice with Annie Pace in various venues around Colorado. We made our first trip to Mysore in the fall of 1998, and upon returning moved to Encinitas to study and practice with Tim on a daily basis. In 2001, we moved back to Colorado and started teaching in Denver in 2002. In Colorado we resumed making regular trips to Crestone, taking some of our students along to meet and study with Annie. We also regularly have hosted her in Denver for weekend workshops. We continue to maintain our connection with Tim, hosting him in Denver and making regular trips to practice with him in Encinitas. Annie and Tim have both been instrumental in our development as practitioners and as teachers. We have made several return trips to Mysore since 1998. Joan was authorized Level 1 in 2010, and Eric was authorized Level 2 in 2012. We strive to cultivate a warm, safe, non-competitive atmosphere in our practice room, nurturing students to develop a practice that will serve their health and lives for years to come. In addition to teaching yoga, Eric has a Ph.D. in Structural Dynamics and is an independent consultant. Joan is also a massage therapist with over 2 decades of experience in a variety of modalities.
