Devorah Sacks - Personal Biography
Devorah has been practicing traditional Ashtanga yoga since 1993 and for the past 17 years has been sharing her knowledge and passion with her students. In 1997, she made her first trip to Mysore to study with her teacher Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and has since made three return visits. In 2000, Devorah was honored to receive Guruji's blessing to teach.
Devorah has also studied with many Western senior Ashtanga teachers, but her greatest influence has been Dena Kingsberg. Devorah has studied extensively with Dena since 1998, and in 2001, she traveled to Byron Bay, Australia to study with her there. Dena continues to be a huge inspiration in both her practice and her life.
Devorah has run three Mysore programs in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2007, she founded Mission Ashtanga, a traditional Mysore school in the Mission District. In addition to her yoga teaching, Devorah is also a licensed Somatic, Body-Centered Therapist and Yoga Therapist and has a private practice in San Francisco. In her spare time, she studies Sanskrit with her teacher Kiranavali Devi at the Brahmananda Ashram.
