Margherita Barbisio Vecchiè - Personal Biography

Margherita Vecchie with Manju Jois

Margherita Vecchiè started her practice of Ashtanga yoga in Italy with Lino Miele in 1999, after meeting Sri K. Pattabhi Jois ("Guruji") for the first time in Mysore in 1998. She has also attended many Ashtanga workshops and teacher trainings with great masters such as Tina Pizzimenti, David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Nancy Gilgoff, Mark and Joanne Darby, David Williams and Kino MacGregor. Since 2004, Margherita has been a student of Manju Pattabhi Jois, son of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and has attended many of Manju's workshops and the 1st and 2nd series teacher trainings. In 2009, Margherita received Manju's blessing to teach the traditional Ashtanga yoga system.

Since 2005, Margherita and her husband Giuliano Vecchiè have organized many Ashtanga yoga events in Bologna with some of the abovementioned senior Ashtanga yoga teachers and with Manju Jois in particular.

Margherita is co-founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Bologna Association (AYBO) and of the first Ashtanga Yoga School in Bologna. She translated into Italian the famous book, Yoga Mala, by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and together with her husband also translated Ashtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual by David Swenson.
